University Priorities
Our philanthropic strategy in support of the University’s priorities definitively shapes opportunities for FAU’s people, purpose, and paradise.
Investing in People
Philanthropic support helps us attract, recruit, and retain the talented students, faculty, and staff working to solve South Florida’s pressing issues:
- Scholarships boost our economy by getting students to — and through — college debt-free
- Endowed chairs and professorships bring innovative ideas that draw significant federal and foundation support
- Fellowships bring rising stars to our graduate research enterprise and influence the next generation to follow in their footsteps
- Athletic scholarships help our Owls compete, mentorship prepares leaders, and endowed coaches set new standards for success
“I truly feel the opportunities I’ve had at FAU are going to impact my life in ways that I wouldn’t have, had I gone anywhere else.”
— Bebeto Amazan ‘19, multiple scholarship recipient and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience Post-Baccalaureate Research Experience (PRE) Fellow
Investing in Purpose
All of humanity’s discoveries, inventions, and cures begin with research, which defines our academic reputation and areas of investment:
- Research at FAU focuses on big ideas: enhancing healthy minds and bodies as we age; understanding, preventing, and treating brain challenges; fortifying environments from the sawgrass to the seagrass; safeguarding through embedded technology; innovation in entrepreneurship; and investigating how peace and justice molds humanity
- Infrastructure upgrades and major building projects create state-of-the-art space for research, discovery, and care
- Research tools and cutting-edge technologies such as high-powered microscopes, brain imaging machines, and computational systems are required to bring about breakthroughs
“Whether it’s climate change or light pollution, we have a chance to see it now and make a difference. Not only will private support help protect our beloved sea turtles, but in aiding their survival, we’ll help protect our own environment.”
— Professor Sarah Milton, environmental researcher
Investing in Paradise
We prioritize initiatives that transform Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties as epicenters of healthy living, education, and economic vitality:
- Community Health: Investing in clinics like FAU Medicine, the Comprehensive Center for Brain Health, and the Louis and Anne Green Memory & Wellness Center expand the breadth and depth of who and what we treat
- Community Engagement: FAU is a hub for exemplary athletics and arts through projects like the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence and Theatre Lab
- Community Learning: FAU’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is the largest in the U.S., expanding its programming and reach to serve an engaged and ever-growing community
“I want community to be at the center of it all. Without community, our first-generation students will not succeed. They need a community to tell them that they’re doing great and to give them an extra push.”
— Neasha Prince ‘20, Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholars Program
With the FAU Foundation, the ability to see your philanthropic vision and investment grow is boundless. Tell us about your priorities for bettering education, health, and the environment, and we will present you with the opportunity of a lifetime.
