Florida Atlantic University, a public university, established the FAU Foundation Inc., a charitable 501c3 direct support organization, to solicit and secure private donations in support of the academic and research missions of the University. The Nelligan Sea Turtle Research Support fund was established by the FAU Foundation in 1989 by friends and family of Mr. Thomas Nelligan. The fund was established to perpetuate Mr. Nelligan’s love of the ocean and sea turtles through sea turtle research at FAU.
To date, contributions to the Nelligan Sea Turtle Research Support fund have helped support more than 40 research projects. The findings and recommendations from these projects are disseminated through professional publications, scientific journals, community presentations, and public exhibits. Conservation and management policies as well as actions taken both locally and globally integrate these findings.
The FAU students and faculty working on marine turtle studies continue to make a difference through careers in conservation, marine environmental management, sea turtle biology, and public environmental education.
Through your generosity, the Sea Turtle Research program will be able to develop future scientists who will impact society by integrating innovation, scholarship and creativity into their research endeavors.
