Florida Atlantic University Harbor Branch researchers have been investigating the therapeutic potential of marine natural products for decades. Over the years, we have amassed more than 30,000 sea sponges and soft corals, as well as 19,000 microorganisms. Our goal is to identify compounds that can prevent cancer cells from spreading and to restore normal immune responses. Researchers use state-of-the-art technologies to test marine-derived chemicals on cancer cells, monitor their effectiveness and better understand how they work. Our team has studied a variety of cancers over the years, but today we focus on aggressive forms, such as pancreatic, lung, colon, and triple-negative breast cancers. Charitable gifts to this program help support cancer cell biology research and drug discovery efforts at Harbor Branch.
