Since earning his J.D. from Columbia Law School, Rick Stone has amassed extensive legal expertise, dating back to his earliest experience as a law clerk for the Honorable Charles Sifton of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Rick was also a former partner at one of the country’s oldest law firms, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. He has been Lead Counsel on several major high profile successful consumer and securities class actions. Rick now spends a considerable portion of his time on managing his family office which he founded.
Rick is President and Co-Founder of the Palm Beach Investment Research Group Inc., a membership based not-for-profit corporation founded in 2008 consisting of a large group of single-family offices and other active investors. Rick moderates the group discussions which are primarily on asset allocation and investment strategies. He is responsible for manager selection, and ensures topics and strategies are consistent with the investment appetites of members. As moderator, Rick ensures the group provides a safe, collegial, and stimulating environment for members to discuss and share actionable investment ideas, as well as other issues relating to significant wealth. The group is very active and over 700 managers have presented over the past 15 years. Rick has built up a large investment network which he successfully deploys to source the leading Alternative Investment managers.
Rick is a Director of the Investment Committee of the Quantum Foundation in West Palm Beach and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He is an adjunct law professor at Florida Atlantic University, where he also established the Stone Program on Law, Economics and Business. Rick previously taught at Nova Southeastern University, as well as Florida State University. Rick believes that direct mentoring and sponsorship of youth is the most successful type of philanthropy. In 2011, Rick established a donor advised fund with the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties to support a wide variety of local causes. Rick is passionate about youth in need, sports, environmental preservation, and religion. In 2019, Rick was honored as “Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year” by the Association of Fundraising Professionals in Palm Beach County.
