Florida Atlantic Celebrates Spring 2025 Graduates

Florida Atlantic University conferred more than 3,700 degrees over the course of seven commencement ceremonies on its Boca Raton campus. At the ceremonies, President Adam Hasner recognized four exceptional individuals with the President’s Distinguished Service Medallion — the highest honor awarded by the University. Honorees George Elmore, Marilyn Wallach, Eleanor Baldwin, and Dr. Stacy Volnick were selected by President Hasner for their extraordinary service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to Florida Atlantic and the broader community.

Florida Atlantic Receives Gift to Establish the Marta and Jim Batmasian Memorial Pavilion

Florida Atlantic University recently announced a $500,000 gift from benefactors Marta and Jim Batmasian to name the Marta and Jim Batmasian Memorial Pavilion as part of the future Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building. The Batmasian Memorial Pavilion will be a featured outdoor focal point adjacent to the Wallach building, and will offer a serene and easily accessible location for quiet reflection, outdoor receptions or as a gathering site.

Florida Atlantic Opens Larkin American Presidential Study

Florida Atlantic University’s Department of History in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the S.E. Wimberly Library recently celebrated the opening of the Alan B. and Charna Larkin American Presidential Study. The 1,500-square-foot space in the library at Florida Atlantic’s Boca Raton campus displays personally signed letters from every U.S. president dating back to George Washington. The collection, along with funding to design, develop and maintain the space, was donated by Charna Larkin. The study will also serve as a historical archive of the Alan B. and Charna Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency, which Charna Larkin established in 2003 in memory of her husband, Alan.

Florida Atlantic University has been designated as an “Opportunity College and University” by the Carnegie Classifications, recognized as an institution that serves as a model for studying how campuses can foster student success. Florida Atlantic received two measures: one for access, based on the percentage of students who receive Pell grants and the percentage of undergraduate students who are from underrepresented backgrounds; and one based on undergraduate students’ post-attendance earnings eight years after entering the institution

One standout initiative, the Veteran Canine Rescue Mission (VCRM) within Canines Providing Assistance to Wounded Warriors (C-P.A.W.W.®), pairs military veterans with specially selected shelter dogs. This program serves as a non-pharmaceutical treatment for veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and similar conditions.

Florida Atlantic Honors 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees and Distinguished Alumni

Florida Atlantic University recently hosted its annual Hall of Fame & Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony and Reception. The annual event brought together alumni and community members to celebrate the accomplishments of their outstanding peers, with graduates from nine of Florida Atlantic's colleges honored for their career accomplishments. Luis Alberto Moreno ’76, a graduate of the College of Business, and Cheryl Wilke ’88, a graduate of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, also were introduced as the 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, marking the 40th anniversary of this award that represents the pinnacle of career impact and industry success.

Dates Set for 2025 Homecoming and Owl Family Weekend

Florida Atlantic football, led by first-year Hagerty Family Head Coach Zach Kittley, will play its 25th Homecoming Game on Saturday, Nov. 8, versus Tulsa. The date for the Owl Family Weekend celebration has also been set for  Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Owls play host to UAB. Both contests are American Athletic Conference games and will be held in conjunction with on-campus festivities which will be announced at a later date.
