Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing Receives $1.8M Gift from Mark Bruce Swillinger

Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing has received a $1.5 million gift from Mark Bruce Swillinger in memory of his wife, Marilyn Lee Swillinger, to establish an endowed professorship in hospice and palliative care nursing. The Mark Bruce and Marilyn Lee Swillinger Endowed Professor will expose nursing students to specialized studies in hospice and palliative care throughout their nursing education. Additional gifts totaling $300,000 name the dean’s conference room for Marilyn Lee Swillinger, and the collaborative classroom for Mark and Marilyn together.

Florida Atlantic University Kicks Off Construction of the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building

Florida Atlantic University recently celebrated the start of construction for the future home of the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building. A South Florida destination for visitors seeking first-hand knowledge about the Holocaust, programming within the building will include cultural performances, lectures, and exhibits that further understanding and respect for humanity. Made possible through the generosity of Kurt and Marilyn Wallach and supported by many others who share their vision, the facility is set to open in Fall 2026.

Florida Atlantic Ranks in 'Washington Monthly' Top 40

Washington Monthly ranked Florida Atlantic University at No. 39 on the “America’s Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars” list among the nation’s best public and private universities, in the publication’s annual College Guide. Florida Atlantic also was ranked No. 5 in the “Best Bang for the Buck” for Southeast colleges and on the “Top 25 Best-in-Class Colleges” list.

Florida Atlantic Alumni Association Board Welcomes New Members

Florida Atlantic University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors welcomed Gerri Lynn Busold ’05; Corey Hancock, Ph.D., ’02, ’05; Rachel Huerta ’07, ’11; Mark Kattoura, Ph.D., ’01, ’03, ’13; Michelle Lurie ’92; Michael Velez ’05; and Craig Winograd ’89 to its board. Additionally, the FAU Alumni Association Board of Directors appointed its new executive committee for the upcoming fiscal year. Chris Ferreira ’16, ’20, will now serve as chair. Joining Ferreira on the executive committee are Kris Wall ’01 as vice chair; José Zenón ’95 as secretary; Jeffrey Joyner, Esq., ’09 as treasurer; Sara Valdivieso ’99, ’03 as alumni engagement liaison; Eric Dansky ’12, ’15 as officer-at-large; and Justine Avila ’05 as immediate past chair.

Cook Scholarship Supports Study Abroad Opportunities

A generous gift from Richard and Mary Ann Cook established the Richard and Mary Ann Cook Study Abroad Fund, which provides selected students with a $5,000 stipend each to participate in a College of Business summer program. The stipend covers tuition, fees, lodging, food and other per diem expenses. Students take classes for credit towards earning their business degrees. They develop skills to successfully participate in the global workforce and economy.

Florida Atlantic Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Announced

Florida Atlantic University will enshrine eight new members into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 10. Announced Thursday by Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White, those slated for induction are Erica Brok (beach volleyball), Harrison Bryant (football), Greg Gantt (men's basketball), Karen Gray (women's golf), Capri Grotowski (coach), Trey Hendrickson (football), Mike McKenna (baseball) and D'Joun Smith (football).
