Last week, we celebrated the incredible generosity of our scholarship donors and the achievements of our students at the Donor & Scholar Recognition Luncheon. This special event, part of the Transcend Tomorrow campaign, highlighted the transformative impact of donor support on our students' lives and academic success. At this event, we heard the incredible and heartwarming stories of Florida Atlantic University scholarship recipients – many who thought a college degree was out of reach. To date, the Transcend Tomorrow campaign has raised more than $150 million for scholarships from over 20,000 donors.

The awards highlight exceptional leadership and service to Florida Atlantic. The President’s Talon Award was awarded to philanthropist Marilyn Wallach. Florida Atlantic President Stacy Volnick, Ph.D., ’87, ’06, ’22, received the Richard L. Schmidt Alumni Talon Award. The Faculty Talon Award was presented to Michell Hutchings, D.M.A., associate professor and artistic director of the Florida Atlantic Opera Theatre. The Student Talon Award was awarded to Zariah Walker, an undergraduate in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science and Kelly/Strul Emerging Scholar.

Dr. Shaw has served on the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees, the Florida Atlantic Foundation Board of Directors, and the Florida Atlantic Alumni Association Board of Directors. In addition to his leadership roles, Shaw continued his legacy of caring and inspiration with a generous $2 million gift in 2021 benefiting many university students and programs.

MediaLab@FAU is a student-powered community reporting project designed to develop advanced media skills in students, and report and publish stories of wider interest throughout the South Florida region. Press Forward is investing in local newsrooms, with the aim of closing gaps in journalism coverage and scaling the infrastructure the sector needs to thrive. Press Forward was founded by a coalition of benefactors from the MacArthur and Knight Foundations with a $500 million pledge to revitalize local news.
