Florida Atlantic University named Lewis S. Nelson, M.D., as the new dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. Nelson previously served as professor and inaugural chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and chief of the Division of Medical Toxicology and Addiction Medicine at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, and chief of the Emergency Department at University Hospital of Newark, a public safety net hospital. Florida Atlantic University named Cameron G. Duncan, Ph.D., DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, CNE, FAANP, as the new Holli Rockwell Trubinsky Eminent Dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. He is the fourth dean to be appointed in the college’s 45-year history. Duncan recently served as the interim dean of the Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno. In his new role at Florida Atlantic, Duncan will work closely with faculty, staff and local partners to further enhance the college’s clinical, educational and research initiatives and advance community health.

Student-athletes at Florida Atlantic University achieved a department-wide cumulative GPA of 3.23 in the fall semester – the 19th consecutive semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Collectively, both the men's and women's teams surpassed the mark. Women's teams combined for a 3.518 GPA, the highest fall GPA achieved over the last four years. The men's teams posted a combined 3.230 GPA, just shy of their all-time high of 3.262 set in the fall of 2023.
