FAU Awarded $4M in Federal Funding to Support Key Research Programs

Florida Atlantic University has secured $4 million in federal funding to support three transformative programs that advance national priorities in defense readiness, semiconductor workforce development and neurological disease research. The awards include $2 million from the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Air Force to advance secure wireless networks for AI-enabled autonomous systems, $1 million to establish a Chip Design Hub preparing students for careers in the semiconductor industry, and $1 million to expand FAU’s NeuroInnovate Center to accelerate noninvasive treatments for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Together, these initiatives will drive innovation, support economic growth and improve quality of life through advances in national security, technology and health.

Florida Atlantic Athletics Announces $2 Million Gift from Hagerty Family

Florida Atlantic Athletics announced another transformative gift from long-time donors Michelle and Michael Hagerty, who have pledged $2 million in support of women’s scholarships and the Competitive Excellence Fund. The Hagerty Family has donated more than $12 million over the last five years. Their generosity funded the Hagerty Family Head Football Coach, the creation of the Hagerty Family Athletics Village, and essential athletics projects and NIL initiatives.

FAU Becomes State’s First University to Host Onsite Quantum Computer

Florida Atlantic University will become the first university in Florida to publicly host a large, dedicated quantum computer on site. FAU has signed an agreement with D-Wave Quantum Inc. to acquire and install the revolutionary Advantage2 system on the university’s Boca Raton campus later this year. The deployment is expected to drive pioneering research, hands-on student training, and real-world applications in areas such as logistics, transportation, and materials discovery, solidifying Florida’s position as a leader in quantum computing. By making this powerful technology accessible across disciplines, including the sciences, computing, engineering, and business, the system will enable researchers to collaborate across fields and leverage advanced computation to tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges.

FAU Climbs in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Online Rankings

Florida Atlantic University’s online bachelor’s program catapulted 46 spots to No. 77 from No. 123 in the nation for the 2026 “Best Online Programs” rankings by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, Florida Atlantic’s online master’s in education moved up to No. 36, up from No. 46 in last year’s rankings. The online bachelor’s program for veterans also moved up 20 spots to No. 47 from No. 67 after being ranked for the first time just last year.

‘Capturing the American Presidency’ with Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographer Doug Mills

Florida Atlantic University presents the 2026 Alan B. and Charna Larkin Symposium on the American Presidency featuring “Capturing the American Presidency,” a special presentation by Doug Mills, the Pulitzer Prize-winning senior photographer for The New York Times. The event will take place on Thursday, February 26, at 4 p.m. in the University Theatre on Florida Atlantic’s Boca Raton campus.

FAU to Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary by Hosting Museum Exhibit

Florida Atlantic University will host one of six “Freedom Truck” mobile museums currently touring the United States. The mobile museum provides a walk-through exhibit featuring original historic artifacts from the nation’s founding era. With interactive content for visitors of all ages, the exhibit tells the story of how 13 colonies declared independence, defeated the greatest empire in the world and secured American sovereignty 250 years ago. The Freedom Truck exhibit will be at FAU from Friday, Feb. 20 to Monday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., outside of the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
