Katie G. Burke is the Assistant Vice President of Alumni and Community Engagement for Florida Atlantic University. In her role, she is responsible for the overall direction and management of community engagement and alumni relations at Florida Atlantic. She engages alumni and friends in the life of Florida Atlantic, helping establish meaningful lifelong connections with the university, while developing a culture of philanthropy and excitement within the community. Dr. Burke is charged with offering counsel and leadership to the Florida Atlantic Alumni Association, its staff and board. She is a leader within the Forum of Florida Alumni Associations, the American Athletic Conference Alumni Leaders, and recently facilitated Florida Atlantic joining the Council of Alumni Association Executives.
Dr. Burke’s career extends more than 17 years at Florida Atlantic. She previously served as the Executive Director of New Student Transitions and Family Engagement. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant Dean for the Weppner Center for Leadership Education & Development and Service-Learning. During her tenure at Florida Atlantic, Dr. Burke has held numerous leadership roles in student affairs and enrollment management, including New Student Orientation and Onboarding, Transfer Student Services, Family Engagement, Student Organizations, Civic Engagement and Service, and the Florida Atlantic Mentoring Project.
A lifelong Owl, Dr. Burke came to Florida Atlantic as a first-generation student and received her undergraduate degree in criminal justice. She went on to complete two master’s degrees, as well as a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research methodology. Within Florida Atlantic, Dr. Burke is a highly engaged staff mentor and also serves as an associate graduate faculty who teaches higher education leadership courses as well as University Honors Program courses. Dr. Burke also has published works and presented at a variety of professional conferences.
