Florida Atlantic University is one of 277 U.S. colleges and universities to receive the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification for 2026, an elective designation awarded by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching that highlights an institution’s commitment to community engagement. With this recognition, Florida Atlantic is now one of only 11 universities in the United States to achieve three Carnegie Foundation designations: Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, “R1: Very High Research Spending and Doctorate Production,” and “Opportunity College and University.”

Elmore Impact for Good Initiative fund established by George Elmore through the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, which funds programs promoting community impact. The two awards include supporting brain science research on aging at the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute and fostering entrepreneurship programs at The Runway at Florida Atlantic at the College of Business.

The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the Libraries at Florida Atlantic University will present the “Festival for America’s 250th,” a month-long program of events celebrating the nation’s founding, from February 2 through March 19, 2026. The festival is sponsored by The Family of Marvin and Sybil Weiner, with support from the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of Florida, John G. Brim, the Boca Raton Historical Society, the FAU Department of History, and the Office of the President.

Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute announced the lineup for its annual “John & Barbara Ferrera Ocean Science Lecture Series.” These free public education events provide a forum for the community to learn about the most recent discoveries and innovations at FAU Harbor Branch and around the world directly from the scientists and engineers who make them. Each lecture is followed by a question-and-answer session and a meet-and-greet with the speaker.

The Florida Atlantic Men's Basketball team defeated Memphis by a score of 89-78 on Sunday afternoon at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. The Owls took an early lead over the Tigers and never relinquished it, led by a double-double from redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool, as well as redshirt sophomore forward Devin Williams who tallied a career-high seven blocks.
