Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science has received a $1.5 million gift from the Aaron Family Foundation and Ubicquia, Inc., to establish the Ubicquia Innovation Center for Intelligent Infrastructure. Ubicquia, a global leader in artificial intelligence-driven smart infrastructure, will partner with Florida Atlantic to advance research in industrial sensors, AI and real-time analytics that strengthen power grids, improve energy efficiency, and enhance public safety. The center will create hands-on opportunities for students and faculty to collaborate with industry and public utilities on real-world projects that shape the future of intelligent infrastructure.

The Faculty Talon Award was presented to Dr. Deborah Floyd, who has served Florida Atlantic for more than 25 years as a faculty member specializing in higher education leadership. The Student Talon Award was awarded to Shania Grant ’24, a graduate student pursuing her master’s degree in criminology and criminal justice.

Learn MoreA manatee that had been successfully rehabilitated after a suspected boat strike injury was released Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. The manatee, an adult male dubbed “Harbor Tee,” had been spotted in the channel at Harbor Branch by members of the institute’s Marine Mammal Stranding and Population Assessment team in June. After his release, Harbor Tee stayed nearby for several minutes, even returning to the boat ramp briefly as the crowd dispersed.
